The Comfort TV Show to Win Over Our Hearts!

Gilmore Girls and why it’s still a TV essential 20 years later.

Love, Family, Class and Coffee: Gilmore Girls covers every important topic you could think of, and is still as important today as it was when it first aired back in 2000. Following single mother Lorelai, who left her high class family behind after teenage pregnancy with daughter Rory, we see their friendship blossom through their own challenges and achivements. As both mother and daughter experience difficulties in their relationships, careers, and academics, the show allows us to escape into a world of comedy and love that depoliticizes themes that may otherwise be frowned upon.

So what can we learn from Gilmore Girls?

-It is okay to ask for help when it is needed. While we see the strength and independance of Loralai and Rory throughout the show, in order to get through the tough times, there is no shame in asking for help from family and in doing so doesn’t make you a failure.

-There are days when you won’t like anyone and that doesn’t make you a terrible person. Take that from Michel, and thats all that needs to be said.

-Not everything works out the way you imagined, but thats okay. We see Rory missing out on something big, only to end up somewhere she wanted even more anyway. Everything in life happens so that we can end up where we were destined.

-One person’s criticism doesn’t mean the dreams over. When Rory recieves a piece of harsh criticism during an internship, she lets this derail her entire life, even disconnecting with her mother for a while. Once this is all over we see Rory able to move on with her life, and the comment made no difference to where she ends up.
